Original etching with touches of drypoint printed in black ink on laid paper. A fine impression of Bartsch’s second and final state, Usticke’s second state of four, after the retouch of the side of Jacob’s stone seat making it appear to be divided in the center, this retouch possibly having been performed by Charles Henri Watelet circa 1770. Signed in the plate lower right Rembrandt/van-Rijn-fe. Bartsch 38 ii/ii; hind 104; Bioklund-Barnard 33-I; Usticke 38 ii/iv Joseph was seized by his brothers and sold to some merchants as a slave. They then dipped his coat in the blood of a kid, and brought it to theor father, telling him that they had found it that way in the desert. Jacob could only conclude that Joseph had been devoured by wild beasts. He fell into an inconsolable depression (Genesis 37:31-34) In fine condition, trimmed down to the platemark on all four sides.
